Injured Wolverhampton Wanderers and Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle could miss the rest of the season.

The 27-year-old had to be replaced by former Reading teammate Shane Long early in the first half, and looks likely to be sidelined for a significant period of time.

Giovanni Trapattoni revealed after Ireland’s 2-1 victory that the injury to the Wexford man is quite a serious one.

“It’s his medial ligament. I think he may be out for one or two months, so it’s a very serious injury,” the Irish manager said after the match.

“But I hope by May or June, he can come back and we can have him for the match in Macedonia.”

Doyle has been in good if not exactly prolific form leading the line for Wolves this season –  netting eight times in 29 games in all competitions.
