LISTEN: Some Irish fans have fallen victim to a fake Euro 2016 ticket scam

Caveat Emptor…

Ireland’s opening game against Sweden in Euro 2016 is just around the corner and tickets are extremely expensive in the run up to the game on Monday.

But Irish fans have been urged to be wary when buying tickets from unofficial sources as there have been a number of instances of fraudulent tickets and scams in circulation.

One such scam has caught out at least two groups of Irish fans who are heading over to France this week for the tournament.

Phillip Boucher Hayes on Liveline spoke to Keith, who ordered tickets for himself and two friends on a website called Europeanchampionships.com to the Ireland v Belgium game for €605.

Then he began getting worried when his tickets had yet to arrive, and when he tried to get in contact with the website, he found that the site had closed down and the email address and phone numbers he had for the site no longer worked.

Matthew was in a similar position, if slightly better off, as he had only ordered one ticket from a website called gettickets.co.

His ticket has yet to arrive and he can’t get in contact with them despite the fact the website is still up on running and their Facebook page is still up and posting.

You can listen to the full stories below and we urge all fans to be vigilant and only buy tickets from official sources.
