Liverpool have signed QPR defender Steven Caulker on loan for the rest of the season.
Caulker has been on loan at Southampton since the start of the season but has failed to impress at St. Mary’s, last appearing in the side’s 6-1 Capital One Cup defeat to the Reds.
That Jürgen Klopp has signed a player so badly embarrassed by his own team just last month is a sign of how desperate he is for central defensive reinforcements.
Klopp recently lost Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho to injury, and had to rely on a central defensive pairing of Jose Enrique and Tiago Ilori during last Friday’s FA Cup third round draw with Exeter City.
Kolo Touré and the returning Sakho are expected to face Arsenal at Anfield on Wednesday night, although Caulker did sign in time to be considered.
