We’re not going to pretend we know much about the mercurial art of betting on the horses.
But from now on we’re going to be taking a leaf of this guy’s book when we’re having a wager.
An unnamed 34-year-old scooped a staggering £245,000 on a £10, seven-horse accumulator at Wolverhampton’s Dunstall Park racecourse.
The Southampton man, a motor mechanic, admitted it was down to brilliant luck – as well as a bit of nous and one of the most classic techniques in betting.
He just looked at the race favourites and chose winners based purely on their names, according to the Express and Star.
But the technique worked a blinder as he went ‘through the card’ predicting all seven winners on the day – including Whitecliff, Artful Mind, Mr Boss Man, Oakley Girl, Perfect Cracker, Bank Of Gibraltar and Ohsosecret on January 6.
“I chose the horses based on their names,” he told the paper. “I looked at ones who were favourites and selected them at random based upon names that I liked. I was watching the results come in and after the first three had won, I started texting the wife.
“When the seventh one won, I was jumping around the place. It’s the biggest high I have ever had.”
The father of three must have been sh*tting it on the last race with six of his seven winners in the bag when there had to be a photo finish.
Luckily for him Ohsosecret just edged it and landed him £245,000. What makes his win even more spectacular is that he tripled his winnings taking early odds the night before, rather than as they lined up on the day which would have given him only £80,000.
