Mario Balotelli is set to receive a lucrative loyalty bonus if he stays at Liverpool

What a bit of wheeler-dealing from his agent

What a bit of wheeler-dealing from his agent…

Liverpool striker Mario Balotell is set to receive a six-figure loyalty bonus from the Merseyside club if he doesn’t leave during this transfer window.

Balotelli took a pay cut when he moved from AC Milan to Liverpool, but his astute agent Mino Raiola added a ‘loyalty clause’ to his contract with Liverpool which entitles him to payment for his loyalty to the club.

Despite being frozen out by Brendan Rodgers, and Liverpool being keen to offload the controversial Italian, no clubs are said to be interested in securing the services of the 25-year-old.

Balotelli has hardly set the league alight with his performances last term, scoring one goal but he has shown little interest in moving back to Italy either on loan or on a permanent deal.

If he remains at the club, he looks set for a season of scattered appearances and playing reserve team football, but he will be handsomely compensated for his lack of relevance to Liverpool with his loyalty clause.

Hat-tip to the Guardian.
