It won’t surprise anyone to hear that Mark Hughes’ time at QPR is up, just a day before they play Manchester United at Old Trafford.

When you hear that bookies have stopped taking money on a manager being fired, it is usually a very bad sign. That’s what happened Mark Hughes this morning and sure enough, it has now been confirmed that his short, and not very sweet, time at the helm of QPR is over.

The Welshman took over the west Londoners in January and he did keep them in the Premier League last season, though it was a close run thing.

This season has been a disaster, though, as QPR remain winless after 12 games and they are firmly rooted to the bottom of the table with just four points.

In 34 games in charge at Loftus Road, Hughes only won eight games, and he lost 20, so owner Tony Fernandez has finally pulled the plug after staunchly supporting his boss in recent weeks.

“The circumstances we find ourselves in have left the board of directors with very little choice but to make a change,” read a club statement.

“The board will now be working actively to put a new managerial structure in place as soon as possible.”

“This decision has been taken after careful consideration by the board of directors, following numerous meetings over the last few days,” the statement added.

“The board of directors wish to thank Mark for his commitment, hard work and dedication in his 10 months in charge.

“Mark has shown integrity and professionalism throughout his time.”

And in further ‘follow the bookies’ news, they have stopped taking money on former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp taking over from Sparky. Looks like ‘Arry could be back in the game, but not for the trip to Old Trafford, as QPR confirm that Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki will take charge for that one.
