WBC Diamond middleweight champion Sergio Martinez has said that he is willing to consider dropping weight to secure a big fight deal with either Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
Martinez has a defence of his title in October against British fighter Darren Barker but afterwards is willing to consider a catch-weight fight with either ‘Pac-man’ or ‘Money’.
The Argentine also didn’t rule out moving up to a catch-weight to face super-middleweight Andre Ward once the Showtime Super Six World Boxing Classic is completed – although he will not go as far as a 168-lbs fight.
“Just to keep it clear I never said to Pacquiao or Mayweather to come up to my weight at 160lbs. No, I never said that,” Martinez told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
“What I said in the past is hey, let’s make an agreement. Let’s do a catch weight or let’s fight for a 154-pound title. Now fans are asking me to come up in weight. Well that would be crazy for me to go up to 168lbs.
“Now if Arthur Abraham or Andre Ward want to meet me at a catch weight of 164lbs and the money is right, I’d be willing to do that. But I never said hey Mayweather, hey Pacquiao, come up to 160lbs.
“I’m hoping to do a catch weight. The lowest I can make is 154lbs. The highest as of right now in my career would be 164lbs if the money is right,” admitted Martinez.
