James McCarthy has been named in the Irish team to face Uruguay in tomorrow night’s friendly clash at the Aviva Stadium.
McCarthy’s international future was secured following his three-minute cameo in the 2-1 victory over Macedonia on Saturday and he will start in midfield alongside Liam Lawrence, Paul Green and Keith Fahey.
Keiren Westwood, Kevin Foley and Darren O’Dea are the only survivors from the XI that started against Macedonia, with Stephen Kelly and Ciaran Clark coming in alongside O’Dea and Foley in defence and Andy Keogh starting alongside Shane Long up front.
Fulham defender Kelly will captain the side on his 21st appearance for the national team.
Ahead of tomorrow’s clash with the South American side, Richard Dunne, Robbie Keane, Damien Duff and Kevin Kilbane were released from the squad, while Kevin Doyle withdrew with the knee injury he suffered in the first half of Saturday’s clash.
Ireland’s clash with Uruguay kicks off tomorrow evening at 7.45 pm at the Aviva Stadium.
Ireland: Kieren Westwood, Kevin Foley, Darren O’Dea, Ciaran Clark, Stephen Kelly, Liam Lawrence, Keith Fahey, Paul Green, James McCarthy, Andy Keogh, Shane Long
