Conor McGregor’s former boxing coach defends him, claims UFC “get off on all these shenanigans”

The former-Olympian felt the bigger problem was UFC as a whole.

Conor McGregor’s former coach has spoken out in his defence after the UFC star was arrested in New York today.

Appearing on RTÉ Radio 1’s Liveline, Philip Sutcliffe, who trained McGregor in Crumlin Boxing Club said he hoped “it was a cunning plan, rather than Conor losing the head.”

“It’s after working. He has every paper in the country with his face on the front of it.”

When asked by guest-host, Philip Boucher-Hayes if he had “gone too far”, the two-time Olympian appeared to go on the defensive, replying: “How do we know if he has gone too far?”

“There’s always three sides to every story and the truth is in the middle.”

“Plans don’t always go as planned,” he continued. “I hope he comes out smelling of roses,” rather than being banned from the US.

Later, Sutcliffe criticised Dana White and UFC, saying that they “get off on all these shenanigans.”

“They only seem to want to make money and that’s what they’re in for.”
