Rory McIlroy has been invited to parade his Open Championship trophy at Old Trafford on the opening day of the Premier League season.
The Northern Irish golfer is a United supporter, a point he bravely chose to drive home during his winner’s speech at Merseyside on Sunday.
He joked: “Even being a Manchester United fan I got great support this week and I want to thank everyone for that.”
He may have been booed by sections of the Liverpool-supporting crowd but United are now set to honour the 25-year-old by presenting him to the crowd when they play Swansea City in Louis van Gaal’s first Premier League match in charge on August 16th.
