The out-half limped off during the defeat to Racing Metro in Paris and coach Rob Penney is still unsure of the extent of the hamstring injury.

“It will be significant, but I don’t know how significant yet,” he said in today’s Irish Independent.

Should he fail to make it, Ian Keatley would slot into the number 10 position with Denis Hurley the obvious choice for the full-back jersey. Paul O’Connell meanwhile looks to have had no ill-effects from his return with  64 minutes of Heineken Cup action now under his belt.

Leinster meanwhile were lucky to come away with the win at the RDS on Saturday and Fergus McFadden admits that the reigning champions must become more clinical.

He conceded after the game that Exeter had lost the game rather Leinster had won while Joe Schmidt admitted that an improvement in performance is essential.

“We do have to be better than that, with the utmost respect to Exeter. In pieces, I thought we weren’t too bad today, but they didn’t allow those pieces to be too long or too effective,” he said.

The Scarlets may well be the unfortunate side to be a the receiving end of a Leinster backlash when the sides square off at Parc y Scarlets on Saturday afternoon.
