Oh dear … Crapattoni wants a new contract

If it happens, a contract extension for Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni would be just a stay of execution.

JOE

If it happens, a contract extension for Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni would be just a stay of execution.

The bit-part Ireland supporters lauded the Irish team Richard Dunne and Shay Given after we came away from Russia with the flukiest of fluky points and now seems the appropriate time for ‘Crap Trap’ to look for reward – but it will all end in tears if we keep this clown in charge.

The rickety-old Italian wants to “finish the job” that he started in 2008 and reckons two goalless draws, in which Ireland played dour football, is enough to justify a €1.7m-a-year contract.

But sure, we’re in a fantastic position of qualifying for the Euro 2012 finals – what more could we want, right? Wrong. A defeat to Armenia could change all that, and that’s trusting our archaic tactics and one-dimensional 4-4-2 formation will take three points off Andorra.

Trap, however, has been brash with his remarks about doing the job up to scratch and recently played his wild card by mentioning there are plenty more sides interested in his services.

“Many of them ring, even places at war at the moment,” he said. “I have agents in Europe. There are other situations. I don’t want to meet people … it is not correct, you can’t keep one foot in. [But] we couldn’t also wait. We couldn’t wait for when the situation goes.

“I would like to finish this job because, until now, I think we have not changed everything. We have the possibility to grow again. I would be proud to continue.”

Do the smart thing for once John Delaney, get him out now.
