Oscar Pistorius was today granted bail as the magistrate did not believe he was a flight risk and that the prosecution failed to show he had a propensity for violence.

Another huge media presence was in Pretoria as Desmond Nair granted bail to the Olympic and Paralympic runner.
Nair gave his reasons for granting bail but did also pose a number of questions which are sure to feature during the trial, such as how did he not know Reeva Steenkamp’s whereabouts, why he didn’t check to verify who was in the toilet and why would the couple not escape through the bedroom door rather than venture into the toilet?

There was joy among the family of the athlete at the court’s decision and Pistorius’s lawyer, Barry Roux, told journalists that bail will be set at about 250,000 rand, just under €22,000.
He also confirmed that Pistorius will not be returning to his home after last week’s tragedy.
