Paddy edged a few euros back on us as JOE drew a blank last week. If Meath could have landed one more point we would have been in trouble but Dublin just beat the handicap, meaning we still lead this battle of the punters.
However, as you can see below, we are both still in the red so we have little to shout about. But with loads of GAA and a few other things on in London this weekend, we were spoiled for choice.
Here’s what we went for as we aim for landing all three and stomping our authority on this contest. Well, that’s the plan anyway.

How severe will the backlash be? We pondered sticking a few quid on Kilkenny to beat Limerick by more than 16 points at 9/2 but the Treaty side is too good for that, no matter how fired up Brian Cody’s men are.
Everybody expects the Cats to win this one, which they will, by a comfortable margin. We think it will just about hit double figures, but no more.
John Mullane to score a goal at anytime against Cork, 6/4
Cork have conceded five goals in their three Championship outings to date. Waterford’s John Mullane has yet to raise the green flag this summer. Are those two factors enough to make this a sure-fire winner? We think so and with his record against the Rebels, we reckon the De La Salle man should do the business for us on Sunday.
USA Basketball to beat France by -24.5, 5/6
The Olympics offers such a cornucopia of betting options that it is slightly bewildering trying to choose just one to put in here. We thought about Mark Cavendish to win the men’s cycling road race on Saturday and while he is the justified favourite, he faces a stiff field and a tough course.
So we went for another bet we hope is an even more bomb-proof punt. This USA Basketball team is no Dream Team but it is still pretty special. LeBron, Kobe, Durant and Carmelo should win gold and they will get off to a very comfortable opening win over France on Sunday.
Paddy’s Picks
The consensus amongst hurling fans following Kilkenny’s crushing defeat to Galway in the Leinster final was very much – pity the poor buggers who have to play them next. Following their hard fought win over Clare, Limerick are stepping in to what is very much regarded as the firing line of the Kilkenny backlash.
The handicap has Shefflin & co. at -8 at 11/10 and given the circumstances of the fixture we just can’t see the Treaty men holding them at bay.
Meath came within a Stephen Cluxton save of forcing a replay against All-Ireland champions Dublin but we can’t but think that the score flattered the Royal men given that the Dubs had taken their foot off the pedal and maybe even applied the brakes in the second half. Laois are no world beaters themselves, having snuck past Leitrim. But we think they’re in with a shout of winning this one and to make sure of some return we’ll back them at +2.
Kildare by 1-3 points v Sligo 11/4
The Kildare road show is on its way to Roscommon this weekend as the Lilywhites take on losing Connacht finalists Sligo. The Yeats men successfully kept things tight against Mayo at the same ground and we expect them to do the same here. The handicap has Kieran McGeeney’s men at -4 and while we can see them winning the fixture we think it will be only by a margin of 1-3 points
