With the startling news that Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from Tom Cruise, her husband of almost six years, attention is once again drawn to the highly secretive Church of Scientology and its celebrity members.
NOT LOOKING PEACHY FOR SCIENTOLOGY
As speculation grows that Katie wants out of the Church for good, we are taking bets on the next celebrity to announce their departure from the controversial “religion” set up by sci-fi author L. Ron Hubbard.
Unsurprisingly the fickle 23 year-old journalist/TV presenter/model/Swiss Army Knife, Peaches Geldof, is the 5/1 favourite to be the next celebrity to announce a split from the church, followed by Mad Men (the television series, not Cruise & Travolta) actress Elisabeth Moss at 7/1 and Elvis Presley’s child, Lisa Marie Presley, at 8/1.
Other Scientology members tipped to leave the congregation in the not-too-distant future include television actresses Jenna Elfman and Leah Remini at 8/1 and 10/1 respectively and quirky musician Beck at 12/1.
HIGGS BOSON PAY-OUT
A big congrats to the bi-speckled punters who backed the Higgs Boson particle being discovered. We took some comfort in the fact that Stephen Hawking also lost a bet on the particle’s existence but it pains us to shell out over €5,000, which will no doubt be spunked on comic books and Battlestar Galactica box sets.
The importance of the Higgs-Boson has been explained to us Paddy Power PR numpties on numerous occasions, but we just can’t get our head around it.
Still though, we’ll take having our cherry popped any day over understanding a sentence which contains the words atom, proton and particles.
