What a little legend…
Michael Conlan lost out in hugely controversial circumstances yesterday and the fall out from the decision continues to reverberate around the boxing world.
Claims have come in from Patrick Barnes, father of Paddy Barnes, that the Russians knew that Michael Conlan was going to lose prior to the fight.
Conan himself was irate following the loss and gave a hard hitting interview on RTÉ following the loss where he called amateur boxing “rotten”.
However, amid all this negative press around the fight and the result, a lovely little story has been brought to our attention.
A young boy called Finn McManus has written a letter which will hopefully reach Michael Conlan, where he offers him a medal he won in school because he’s “a winner”.
It was posted to Facebook by his aunt who we assume is beaming with pride at her nephew…
It reads: “Hi Michael, My name is Finn McManus and I am five years old. I saw your fight in Rio and you should have won because you are the best boxer in the world. I want you to have my school medal because you are a winner. I hope you like it, from Finn.”
We will reiterate, what a little legend…
