Pic: Hurleys held aloft as late Tipp hurling legend passes through Cork

A great intercounty tribute to Jimmy Doyle

Tony Cuddihy

This was a fine tribute to Tipperary hurling legend Jimmy Doyle.

JOE reader Jonathan Tuohy got in touch with us this afternoon following the funeral of Jimmy Doyle, a six-times All-Ireland winner with Tipperary and a player named in the hurling teams of both the century and the millennium.

“As he went on his final journey to the Island Crematorium in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork, the members of Shamrocks GAA Club here in Shanbally decided it would be fitting to pay tribute to a GAA great,” Jonathan told us.

“Us members young and old stood outside the ground, the last GAA ground that Jimmy would pass, with hurleys and flags in honour of the great man.

“It was a touching moment as the hearse paused for a moment outside the entrance to the club. An absolute honour to be involved and huge credit goes to Shamrocks GAA for this touching gesture.”
