Joseph Duffy has explained the reasons behind his withdrawal from UFC Dublin after the news broke late last night.
Duffy had been poised to go head to head with Dustin Poirier in the main event at the 3 Arena on Saturday night, but the Donegal native has had to pull out due to injury, with Paddy Hoolahan now set to take centre stage when he takes on Louis Smolka.
Duffy took to Instagram last night to explain the exact reasons behind his withdrawal from Saturday night’s fight, revealing that he had suffered a strike to the head in training and that as a result of subsequent medical tests, he was not deemed fit to fight.
Duffy’s withdrawal will come as a huge blow to Irish UFC fans looking forward to this weekend, but there’s still plenty on the card to get excited about.
Besides, if they’re stuck, organisers could always call on a man who has already offered his services as a high-profile replacement for Duffy, even if his tongue was firmly stuck in his cheek…
