Steve Heighway has an eye for talent

Steve Heighway has an eye for talent.

Now that Steven Gerrard’s wonderful career at Anfield is winding down, it seems appropriate to go back to where it all began.

Before a fresh faced Gerrard announced himself to the Kop with that goal against Sheffield Wednesday in December 1999, he was already turning heads at the club.

Irish international Steve Heighway knows what it takes to excel at Anfield – 4 league titles, 2 European Cups, 2 UEFA Cups and an FA Cup among many others speaks for itself – and he knew that Gerrard always had the potential to make the grade.

The Republic of Ireland international has been a key man in the development of many young players that have learned their trade at Melwood so this report from Gerrard’s schoolboy days carries extra gravitas.

The Liverpool skipper may be set for an emotional goodbye but Heighway always knew that he had the potential to be a Kop darling.

BBC presenter Dan Roan tweeted this and it’s wonderful.

Take a look.
