Most hardcore football fans will be able to list off the nicknames of most top-level clubs although we still get stumped sometimes by Macclesfield. It’s the Silkmen and kudos if you knew that instantly.
Manchester United might not be the all-conquering and title winning behemoth that they once were under Alex Ferguson but they’re still without a doubt one of the biggest clubs in world football.
It’s a shame that the clubs nickname, the Red Devils, seems to more well known beyond the gates of Old Trafford than inside them after this pretty bad gaffe on Twitter.
Some Manchester United fans might refer to the team as ‘The Reds’ but that’s probably the minority in our view.
FYI Man Utd social media team, using a nickname that’s associated with your biggest domestic rivals rather than the standard ‘Red Devils’ is not a smart move.
Naturally a few people were quick to point out this error.
