As classy as you’d expect from the big fella.
It’s nigh on impossible for Paul O’Connell to go up in the estimation of Irish sports fans, but it’s no harm to serve a reminder of why he commands so much admiration on these parts.
O’Connell is a leader and a warrior on the pitch and he’s a gentleman off it, as he illustrated with a letter in response to an Irish rugby fan from Fermanagh who wrote to him following Munster’s defeat to Saracens in January last year.
According to the Fermanagh Herald, the fan, who is identified only as ‘Michael’ in O’Connell’s letter, received O’Connell’s reply only recently and it was worth the wait.

You were right to call him the ‘Taoiseach of Irish Rugby’ Michael; a classy gesture from a classy guy.
