Maybe he just doesn’t want to have to get his suit dry-cleaned afterwards.

He doesn’t quite figure on the radar as much now as he did in his Hull days, but most football fans remember enough about Phil Brown to know that he can be an eccentric enough character at times.

There was the half-time team talks out on the pitch, a few odd quotes here and there and some questionable fashion choices every now and again, the latest of which is his decision to wear a pair of football boots while on radio co-commentary duty with Ireland’s Conor McNamara for Shrewsbury v Chelsea on the BBC tonight.

Question his odd decision to wear the kicks if you will, but the fact that he’s wearing Puma Kings at least illustrates that the man knows a good boot when he sees one.
