PIC: This snapshot of an umpire and a full-forward in a Dublin club game is classic Junior B GAA

Conor Heneghan

Where else would you get it?

Often in GAA circles, a manager will throw in a big lad into the edge of the square and instruct his players to ‘rain ball in’ on the top of the full-forward.

Such advice might not have been appropriate in a clash between Geraldines P Moran and St. James’ Gaels in Cornelscourt in Dublin earlier this week, simply because the mere mention of the word ‘rain’ might have had the St. James Gaels’ full-forward running for cover.

That’s what one could easily determine from the picture below, which shows the full-forward in question taking cover under the umbrella’s umpire when the conditions got a little bit rough.

Whether he knew it or not, it wasn’t just any umpire’s umbrella he was taking cover under either, but a man who featured in one of the all-time classic umpire pictures on these pages a year or so ago (he’s the one signalling a point).

We believe ‘windy’ might be a term levelled at the player in question; know anyone in your own club liable to do something similar?
