Pic: You’d think Cora Staunton would have looked happier after winning an All-Ireland club title yesterday

Will somebody tell Cora that Carnacon actually won the game?

Will somebody tell Cora that Carnacon actually won the game?

Amongst the number of fine achievements by club sides throughout the country yesterday was Carnacon’s victory over Donaghmoyne of Monaghan in the Ladies’ All-Ireland Senior Club All-Ireland Final, with the Mayo side emerging victorious by a single point on a scoreline of 1-6 – 0-8.

As you might expect from arguably the biggest star of Ladies Gaelic Football in the last decade, Cora Staunton played a major role in the victory, scoring 1-5 as Carnacon gained a measure of revenge having lost to the same opposition in last year’s decider.

Carnacon have won every Mayo county title bar one since 1999, 14 out of the last 16 Connacht titles and yesterday was their fifth All-Ireland title so they’re by no means unaccustomed to success – and Cora was on a few All-Ireland winning Mayo ladies teams back in the day as well – but she looked positively disinterested in the celebrations afterwards if the team photo below is anything to go by (You’ll spot Cora just to the left of the trophy).

In fairness to Cora, the photographer obviously caught her at just the wrong moment as there are plenty of pictures of her looking as deliriously happy as all of her team-mates at what they had just achieved, but if she’s going to frame any memento of Carnacon’s latest triumph, we’d suggest that she should pick from the selection below rather than the one above.
