The Irish Olympian was in devastating form today…
One of Ireland’s heroes from London 2012, Michael Conlan, has made a very impressive start at the Commonwealth Games as today he picked up a unanimous verdict win over Mathew Martin of Nauru in his opening bantamweight bout.
Conlan, who is representing Northern Ireland, is in bullish mood at the games and after today’s routine win, he made his target pretty clear:
“Gold is the only one I want – I don’t want silver and I don’t want bronze and I will throw them away if I do get them.
“On my day if I come in in the right frame of mind nobody is going to beat me. Everybody has their off days, but I’m not going to have an off day at these Commonwealth Games.”
