Pics: The new Cardiff City kit is two types of red. And awful

Whatever about the club’s decision to ditch the colour blue, this move, to a two-tone red, is nearly as bad.

Whatever about the club’s decision to ditch the colour blue, this move, to a two-tone red, is nearly as bad.

Ditching almost a century of tradition and moving from blue to red was all part of Cardiff’s new Malaysian owner’s plan to rebrand the club. That, plus a badge change relegating the famous ‘Bluebird’ and introducing a dragon, were very unpopular moves but at the end of the season, Cardiff won the Championship and were promoted to the Premier League. Perhaps the colour red is lucky after all.

So, what kit have the club planned for their first foray into the big time since the early 1960s? Well it’s red but the even bigger problem is that it is two different types of red. The shirt is one tone, the shorts are another and there seems to be a few other different tones going on near the collar.

It is a bit of a shocker to be honest and while we’re usually fans of PUMA’s, these are not their finest work. The designers say the plan was to make the club stand out, and at least that goal has been achieved if nothing else.

Let’s just say we are looking forward to when they play away more than when they play at home.
