On the pitch, Shamrock Rovers beat Linfield 4-1 in their Setanta Cup quarter-final fist leg. Off it, things were not so happy.

First the good stuff. Shamrock Rovers had a convincing 4-1 win over Linfield tonight, a great win for the Airtricity League side over a top three Irish League side.

Sadly, off the field, things were far from good. Reports from Tallaght tonight suggest a poisonous atmosphere and near the end, the Gardai had to get involved.

As you can see above it seems that the Linfield fans managed to raise their club flag, and the Union Jack, on some flag poles.

This led to the Garda intervening, as you can see below. There are no reports of injuries or arrests yet but we expect the picture will be clearer in the morning. Thankfully, it doesn’t look too serious based on the images we have seen. We hope it remained, and remains, that way.
