Poll: Should the FAI give Giovanni Trapattoni a new contract?

Giovanni Trapattoni says he’s a lucky general, like “Napoleone”, and that luck was apparent again when Ireland drew Estonia in the play-off draw in Krakow today.

But should the FAI give him a new contract?

Many Irish fans have been vocal in their criticism of the style of play under the venerable Italian, with some going so far as suggesting that it’s as depressing watching the Ireland soccer team win as it is watching the Ireland rugby team lose.

Other supporters have defended Trap, pointing out that the achievement in taking charge of team which had been subjected to the embarrassing non-stop fiasco of the Stan “Steve” Staunton regime and leading them to back-to-back play-offs.

So is it time to give the Italian management team our full support in the form of a new contract until the World Cup finals in Brazil – or possibly beyond?

Should the FAI wait to see how the lads get on against Estonia and then decide?

Or should they cut Trap, Tardelli and the boys loose – and find someone to take up the mantle? (Roy Keane, anyone?)
