REACTION: Praise rolls in for Annalise Murphy after her fantastic Olympic silver medal

Conor Heneghan

Fair play to Annalise, an amazing achievement.

Having just missed out on a medal at the London Olympics four years ago, Annalise Murphy ensured that there would be no heartbreak this time around by securing the silver medal in the women’s laser radial sailing in Rio de Janeiro.

Murphy’s fifth place finish in today’s event was enough to secure the silver medal overall; she was in the gold medal position at one point but that medal was eventually claimed by Marit Bouwmeester of the Netherlands.

Murphy’s medal is Ireland’s second of the 2016 Games following the O’Donovan brothers’ silver medal in the lightweight men’s double sculls last Friday and plenty of well-earned praise was sent in her direction following her magnificent achievement.

Well done Annalise!
