While there were whispers last week that Luke Fitzgerald could be set for a switch to rival Munster, reports today suggest that it may well be a ‘done deal’.
By Declan Whooley
Last week we reported that Fitzgerald was believed to have held preliminary talks with the Province prior to his anterior cruciate knee ligament injury he suffered while on international duty. It wasn’t known then if there had been any further progress, but 98FM has this afternoon revealed that a contract may well have been already signed.
The radio station has said that Fitzgerald is expected recover in time for pre-season and that a deal to take him to Munster has already been agreed.
He would join fellow Leinster men Andrew Conway and Felix Jones in the Munster back division should the deal come to pass, and while he would represent another big loss for the current Heineken Cup champions, it would be huge coup for Rob Penney’s men.
A fully fit Fitzgerald is a lethal attacking weapon for any side and provided he can avoid further injuries, would represent a signing of intent for Munster.
Joe Schmidt might need to get the cheque book out in the summer the way thingg are shaping up.
