Robbie Keane has confirmed that he is likely to miss the Euro 2012 play-offs through injury.
Keane, who missed out on the 2-1 win over Armenia with the injury, has confirmed to ESPN that he will be out for a t least four weeks with the knock.
“It’s a four-to-six week injury, but I’ll have a scan and we’ll know more in 10 days. It’s a muscle injury not just pain,” Keane said. “I would love to play in the Euros and I’ll do everything I can – the lads will as well.”
With the play-offs scheduled for November 11/12 and November 15, it seems highly unlikely that Ireland’s record goalscorer will be fit for whoever we face.
Keane’s injury is to an adductor muscle and it seems to be this year’s metatarsal, as it is the same muscle that ended Dan Carter’s World Cup.
It is a problem for LA Galaxy too as their play-offs are approaching but we only care about Ireland and regardless of what you think of Giovanni Trapattoni and the current Irish team, we are a bigger threat with Keane in the team.
Put simply, this is very bad news.
