Irish jockey Davy Russell has denied any wrongdoing after failing to appear for a scheduled drugs test yesterday afternoon.
The 31-year-old was requested to present himself before stewards for to supply a urine sample prior to racing at Naas yesterday but he didn’t show up until 5.50pm.
Russell said in a statement that the test had “slipped his mind” and that he had actually left the racecourse before realising.
Turf Club chief executive Denis Egan said that “when the inquiry was being held, no one knew where he was. He just disappeared.”
Last September Russell failed a breath test for alcohol prior to riding but after a second test he was deemed fit to ride.
A negative result was linked to the mouthwash he had used that morning.
