American winger Ryan Guy has announced that he will not return to Richmond Park after four seasons at the Inchicore club.
He will spend his future back in the States having cited a desire to be closer to his family. “A return to good auld America is on the cards for me now, leaving one family to be closer to another,” said the 25-year-old San Diego native.
“Over the last four years I’ve had the pleasure of seeing St Patrick’s Athletic play Premiership sides, host European giants, slay Swedish powerhouses, and travel to the far reaches of the continent,” Guy said.
“I’ve seen tears of sorrow and joy on the faces of players and fans alike. There have been management changes and more than a few squad changes and I’ve even seen the odd prank done on members of staff (I won’t mention any names, Jim Lawlor).
“But, as it does for most footballers, the time has come for me to say my goodbyes. In all honesty, this last four years at Richmond Park have been the best of my life.”
“I am going miss Friday nights in Richmond, and the Stars and Stripes song, and I’m even going to miss the sound of Pete Mahon’s voice ringing in my ears.
“Inchicore will forever be in my blood though, it’s where I was given my start and where I learned the difference between a true Irishman and a plastic paddy.”
