Saracens won a close-fought match against Munster in the Heineken Cup group stages today putting them at the top of Pool 1.
Munster travelled to Watford in Hertfordshire, England, today to play Saracens at Vicarage Road in the fourth match of the Heineken Cup group stages. With two games left Munster lie third in the pool with 11 points while Saracens now sit at the top with 14 points, 2 points ahead of Racing Metro and, eh, 14 points ahead of Edinburgh.
The two sides tied 10-10 thanks to a Doug Howlett try after 26 minutes but Saracens could have easily led the game going into half time if it weren’t for a missed penalty from Owen Farrell (pictured below).

Munster eventually went into the lead after 52 minutes thanks to a penalty from Ronan O’Gara but that was quickly followed up with two successful penalty kicks from Farrell, putting Saracens ahead 16-13.
Will Fraser was shown a yellow card after 62 minutes for a high tackle on Howlett, but the extra man did little to help Munster on. The pressure must have gotten to O’Gara as he missed a fairly easy looking kick with eight minutes left on the clock. A final penalty from Farrell with three minutes left would secure a Saracens victory over Munster.
Munster may have lost the battle with Saracens, but the war for the Heineken Cup is still firmly on. Another two wins from Munster could see them getting through to the quarterfinals.
