Offaly forward Shane Dooley is to undergo surgery on an ear injury suffered during the Allianz League encounter with Dublin yesterday.
Dooley sustained the injury in a challenge with Dublin defender Peter Kelly, who was shown a yellow card for his part in the incident.
Offaly manager and Shane’s father Joe Dooley was less than impressed with the incident which left the Faithful County’s star attacker badly hurt.
“Shane is kind of badly cut. We think his ear is hanging off,” said Dooley.
“I don’t know where the officials were looking at the time that happened. These things happen I suppose, but there’s no ball lying on a fella’s ear when it’s dropping down.”
Dooley will undergo surgery today but it remains unclear for how long he will be out of action. Offaly have yet to win a point in Division One after losing by ten points yesterday, while Anthony Daly’s Dublin side trail Kilkenny by one point at the top of the table.
