His girlfriend thinks he’s worth a shot and he’s actually playing decent football for Aston Villa these days, so is Stephen Ireland worth a place in the Irish squad for Euro 2012?
A while ago, the thought of Stephen Ireland playing in an Irish jersey again for the first time since the infamous ‘Grannygate’ scandal seemed a distant prospect.
He seemed to have no interest for a start, he didn’t exactly speak in high regard for Giovanni ‘loads of phones’ Trapattoni and he wasn’t getting a game at Villa or Newcastle, where he will be remembered more for an infamous photo than anything he did on the pitch.
Ireland’s mood towards Ireland seems to have softened somewhat – certainly if his girlfriend’s comments are anything to go by.
With the creative juices not exactly flowing from the midfielders in the Irish squad at the moment, could the most famous fish-tank owner in Irish sport be a surprise late call-up for the trip to Polkraine in the summer?
So, what do you think? Should Trap bury the hatchet and recall Stephen Ireland to the squad?
Or are we better off leaving him be?
