The arrests took place this morning.
Six top FIFA officials have been arrested this morning on suspicion of receiving and paying millions of dollars in bribes.
More than 10 officials, including vice presidents Jeffrey Webb and Eugenio Figueredo and former member Jack Warner, face charges of wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering, according to The New York Times.
The officials were in Switzerland ahead of an election which was expected to see FIFA President Sepp Blatter reinstated for a fifth term.
Blatter was not among those charged on Wednesday morning, the Times reported.
The charges relate to allegations of widespread corruption involving bids for World Cups as well as marketing and broadcast deals over the last two decades.
The arrests were reportedly carried out by Swiss authorities in order to extradite the officials to the United States.
