Six Nations: 5 players who stood out during match week 5

JOE

Another Six Nations is over and the report cards have been written.

England are top of the class with a 100 per cent record, while the chasing pack are all capable of improvement.

But who were the star pupils during this week’s round of games?

Danny Care, England

Eyebrows were raised when he was picked ahead of Ben Youngs at scrumhalf. However, Eddie Jones’ selection was justified by Care’s incisive runs that kept the French back-line guessing throughout.

A try, coupled with consistently quick supply, saw the Harlequins man put in one of his finest performances in an England shirt.

Maro Itoje, England

Itoje is already one of England’s key men and at the tender age of 21, he’s only going to get better.

His performance on Saturday saw him take on the role of leader, guiding his side to their first Grand Slam in over a decade.

CJ Stander, Ireland

Irish fans have fallen for Stander and one look at his performance on Saturday will tell you why. He’s tough as nails and has no problem putting his head into places where most people wouldn’t stick a shovel.

An NFL-esque try was a lovely bonus to what has been an excellent Six Nations for the Munster captain.

Stuart Hogg, Scotland

Hogg’s pace is second to none in the Six Nations and it was evident again when he cut the Irish defense in two to score an amazing individual try.

The whole Keith Earls mess aside, Hogg had another brilliant game and is currently the best full-back in the tournament.

Taulupe Faletau, Wales

Wales tied up their Six Nations campaign by trouncing Italy early on Saturday afternoon. Faletau was at the root of everything that was good about the Welsh game and he looked assured throughout.
