Springbok backs Ireland for final

Springbok jannie du Plessis thinks Ireland will make the Rugby World Cup final. Flattery or minds games?

Some of us may be whispering it, and we all are definitely hoping for it, but now some Ireland’s World Cup rivals are actually saying it; Ireland can make the final in New Zealand.

Springbok prop Jannie du Plessis, in the process of talking about his sides’ game with Australia, couldn’t help himself from looking at the other side of the draw.

“Ireland have been playing incredibly well,” he told The Guardian. “They have really stepped up and brilliant is the only word to describe them. Wales have also made a mark.

“They nearly beat us in the opening group game and any side that puts 66 points on Fiji commands respect. It is going to be some game between them on Saturday.”

Okay, so he likes Wales but what do you really think Jannie, where’s your rand going?

“They [Wales] have always had bags of talent but now they seem to have a belief in each other and they have developed a structure that works for them. I like the way they are playing an exciting brand of rugby, but if I had to make a choice for the final it would be Ireland. They just look in really great shape.”

We’re not sure if it is a good thing or not that people are starting to talk us up. Thankfully we do know that Declan Kidney and the lads will pay no heed to the talk.
