With Conor McGregor next entering the octagon in January to face Denis Siver, many people from the Emerald Isle have their tickets and flights booked to see the rising UFC star.

While this shows tremendous commitment to support the Irish sports star, a new level of dedication will have to be shown if the latest Aussie press rumour turns out to be true.

According to the Australian Daily Telegraph, UFC President Dana White is aiming to bring UFC 193 to the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne. This stadium has a 50,000 plus capacity on match days and we assume that this will only go up when they add seating to the pitch.

Jon Jones and Ronda Rousey are the other names being touted as possible headliners in the massive pay-per-view event.

There is a current ban on octagon fighting in Melbourne, but that law is due to be changed with the introduction of a new government in Victoria opening the way for the event.

According to UFC Australia head honcho Tim Wright, it will be an event to remember; “I remember when we first went into Toronto, Canada, and (UFC owner) Lorenzo Fertita said ‘this is going to be our Super Bowl’. It’s the same with Melbourne. That will be our mandate.”

The prospect of a McGregor fight in Melbourne is an appetising one, as long as it doesn’t get in the way of a Croke Park date sometime next year. We have our hearts and minds set on this Mr White…
