Sunderland are poised to secure the signing of Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan from French side Rennes.
Gyan, 24, is said to have arrived in Sunderland to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms ahead of a move thought to be in the region of £12 million.
Gyan was extremely impressive for Ghana at the World Cup in South Africa, scoring three goals for the Black Stars in their march to the quarter-finals.
Gyan joined Rennes from Udinese in July 2008 and scored 14 goals for the Ligue 1 side. He has scored 22 goals in 44 international appearances for Ghana.
