This week’s Champions League served up some scintillating football and as per usual, there were some things we loved and some things we hated…
Arsenal’s first-leg performance left their dreams of a trophy in tatters, Atletico’s penalty prowess saw them progress, while Manchester City were outclassed by Barca and Dortmund weren’t able to handle Juventus.
Here’s what we loved and what we hated.
Love
Lionel Messi’s brilliance
A fantastic overall performance saw Messi pick up an assist. If it wasn’t for a great display from Joe Hart, he could have had around six goals too.
Carlos Tevez at his best
The Argentinian is a special talent and when he gets the application right (like he did on Wednesday) special things happen.
Hate
Arsenal’s inability to reach the quarter finals
The Gunners have consistently reached this stage of the competition but their fans want much, much more. Losing against Barcelona and Milan is acceptable, but being knocked out by Monaco is not. Arsene, you’re plateauing and the fans are sick of it.
The statement “The Premier League is the best league in the world”
There are five different leagues being represented in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Premier League is not one of them.
Those who talk about this being the best league in the world badly need to reassess their opinions.
