The big man’s not ready for a Munster return just yet

Paul O’Connell’s Munster comeback will happen sooner rather than later, but the big fella won’t feature in the interprovincial clash with Ulster this weekend.

It’s been a long time since O’Connell played in either a Munster or an Ireland jersey after suffering a knee injury in the Heineken Cup quarter-final back in April and he had been due to see some game time against the northern province on Friday night.

According to the Irish Independent today, however, there has been a slight setback in O’Connell’s rehabilitation from said knee injury and he’ll have to sit out for a little while longer before he returns to the Munster colours.

O’Connell won’t play against Ulster, but a number of his fellow Irish internationals will after the IRFU Player Management Scheme affected their involvement in the opening two Rabo12 fixtures.

Conor Murray, Ronan O’Gara and Keith Earls are amongst those expected to get a run-out at Ravenhill, but Donnacha Ryan and Peter O’Mahony may be given the night off as both sides look to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

Ulster take on Munster at Ravenhill on Friday at 7.05pm.
