The four-timer: Weekend bets

The less said about last week’s tips the better. Just chance a tenner on these four for the guts of €200. We’ll get it right sometime.

By Conor Heneghan and Sean Nolan

Norwich v Arsenal (Robin van Persie to score at anytime @ 4/5)

There’s nobody in better form in the league at the moment than the Dutchman, who has scored eight goals in his last four league games and ten in his last six. Arsenal fans are scared to death that he will succumb to yet another injury anytime now, but while he’s fit and raring to go, you can rely on him to hit the net with startling regularity.

Even a team as crap as Blackburn managed to score three against the Canaries in their last home game, so Arsenal in this form have the capacity to run riot.

Castres v Munster (Munster to win @ evens)

Had Ronan O’Gara not landed THAT drop goal in Thomond last Saturday evening, Munster would be in an ominous position heading to France this weekend. Instead, they mustered a win from an impossible position as they tend to do and a win away to Castres would set them up nicely ahead of back to clashes with the Scarlets next month.

Their opponents are third in the Top 14 and are certainly no mugs, but Munster lost all three of their pool games on the road last season and it will be something of a cause célèbre within the camp not to let that happen again. It might take another 40 phases and a ROG drop goal to do it, but we think they’ll sneak over the line at the end.

Swansea v Manchester United (Four or more goals @ 15/8)

This Saturday evening clash should be a very entertaining game, and we expect lots of goals at Liberty Stadium.

Even with the excellent Michel Vorm in goal, Swansea have been on the end of some big scorelines, and we expect them to be on the end of a hiding at the hands of Fergie’s men. Even if United don’t hit top gear, we can still be covered because the Red Devils are far from rock solid themselves so maybe Danny Graham can keep his goalscoring form up for the Welsh side.

A high-scoring win for the visitors is our call, and this bet makes the most of that prediction.

Green Bay Packers v Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Green Bay (-14) to win @ 10/11)

The only worry here is that Green Bay decide to ease up. If they play to anything close to their top level for four quarters they could mangle Tampa by 50 or 60 points.

Last week wasn’t a great week for us but we did call the Bucs getting crushed by the Houston and they duly obliged. Because they are terrible.

Green Bay have won their last 15 games, stretching back almost a year. Tampa won’t stop them, it is just a case of how many touchdowns Aaron Rodgers feels like getting. We think he will want quite a few in front of his home fans.
