The Friday Flutter: Ireland/South Africa, Man City/Spurs and Luis Suarez

After five weeks in a row of getting two out of three, surely this week we finally land the treble.

JOE

After five weeks in a row of getting two out of three, surely this week we finally land the treble.

Djibril Cisse is not an easy man to warm to for any number of on-field or off-field reasons. We like him even less now after he robbed us of 20/1 treble last week. After correctly selecting RVP to score against Arsenal (not exactly Nostradamus but still) and with our NFL bet on the Steelers also coming home, it was Cisse’s equalizer for QPR that denied Reading the win and me a tidy payout.

That’s five weeks in a row now where we have landed two of the three bets here and we must surely break our duck and leap into a healthy profit soon. Right?

So, this week we have a feast of rugby and soccer to chose from and this week’s combo could net you €150 for your tenner.

South Africa to beat Ireland (-5), Evens

We never like going against our country but we fear for Ireland in this one. Some of the new faces are welcome and we are interested to see how Jamie Heaslip does as captain. That said, we are facing one of the world’s best sides without Brian O’Driscoll, Paul O’Connell, Rory Best, Stephen Ferris and Rob Kearney. We’re at home and we probably won’t get hammered, but -5 is too generous a handicap to pass up.

Man City v Tottenham, four or more goals, 13/8

One of our favourite bets and we expect it to land for us again at the Etihad. Tottenham are much better away from home, where their counter-attacking style hits full flow and we expect Gareth Bale to have a stormer on Sunday.

However, Spurs are not too great at the back and with Roberto Mancini needing a win to silence the critics, we expect his team to be attacking from the off, with Sergio Aguero looking sharp again.

This fixture last season, back in January, was 3-2 to the home side. It could be a similar result this weekend.

Luis Suarez to score anytime v Chelsea, 15/8

If Liverpool are going to score at Stamford Bridge, it should be Suarez who does the business. He’s scored in his last three games and has 10 for the season in all competitions. He still needs too many chances to hit the target but as the only striker Liverpool have, he’s likely to get a fair few opportunities again on Sunday.

You have to go back to September to find the last time Chelsea kept a clean sheet in the Premier League (against Stoke) so we fancy the Reds to at least nick one, hopefully via the boot of everyone’s favourite Uruguayan.
