The Friday Flutter: Man U/Liverpool, Leinster and the NFL playoffs

A massive sporting weekend should yield us a massive gambling return, right? Here’s hoping.

Last week the accursed FA Cup once again proved too hard to make any money from, at least for us. We predicted Aston Villa would slip up but instead of falling to Wolves, who they beat, they fell to Bradford in the Capital One Cup instead.

On top of that Manchester City put three past Watford, when we needed four. At least our NFL bet, on the Ravens, held up.

So after striking out so far in 2013, a much better slate of sporting events is up for decision. Here’s who we fancy in this week’s treble. It should return odds of around 18/1.

Red card to be shown in Man U/Liverpool game, 9/5

The clash at Old Trafford should be a cracker but we wouldn’t like to predict the outcome so we instead like the look of the red card market. This should be a tightly contested clash and with Howard Webb on duty, a red is always possible, as it was the last time he reffed these two. It’s 19/1 for both teams to get a red but we’re not brave enough to back that.

Jonny Sexton to score a try at anytime v Scarlets, 5/2

Leinster haven’t exactly been scoring machines in their defence of the Heineken Cup crown, with just three tries in four matches so far. But we expect that to change this weekend, when the Scarlets come to Dublin. The hoem side need a bonus point win so tries, and lots of them, should be on the menu.

With Brian O’Driscoll on the bench, we think Jonny Sexton will step up, as he has in recent Rabo games, and get at least one fo the required four.

New England Patriots (-9.5) to beat the Houston Texans, 10/11

Houston struggled past the Cincinnati Bengals, at home, last week. Now they travel to a rested Pats team who are in the mood to get to yet another Super Bowl. This game is a mismatch no matter what way you look at it and we fully expect the home side to run up a big score here as they head to the AFC Championship game.

Don’t let us down Tom.
