Our first attempt at this last week didn’t go so well but we’re confident this week will be much better. Honest.
There are times when we consider giving up this tipping lark (cue loads of comments, probably correctly, saying’ wish you would’) but we must persevere. Our so-called sure thing last week, Camelot, let us and a million other accumulator punters down at odds of 4/11 and those are the kind of set-backs that could put a lesser mortal into a betting hibernation.
But we are not lesser men here at JOE Towers. Undaunted, we will once again try to pick out three winners for you. One should be a dead cert (terms and conditions apply, see above), one is a decent bet and one is a long shot and we are sticking to football this week. The odds on this week’s treble is 59/1 but based on last week’s performance, maybe pick and choose the one you fancy instead…
Chelsea to beat Stoke, 1/3
Yes Chelsea had a tough Champions League game in midweek but they are a formidable team this year. They have arguably more attacking talent at their disposal than anyone else in the Premier League. Stoke have Michael Owen.
Chelsea have beaten Stoke every time the Potters have come to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League and the combined score over those four games is Chelsea 12 Stoke 1. Tony Pulis’s side are formidable a home against anybody but away from the far-from-cosy confines of the Britannia they are woeful.
Arsenal to beat Manchester City, 4/1
We think those are very generous odds by our favourite bookie and we can’t really fathom why they are so high. Yes Arsenal lost at the Etihad last season thanks to a David Silva goal but Arsene Wenger’s men gave them a hell of a game and beat them at the Emirates in April.
On what we have seen so far, Roberto Mancini’s side are a little dodgy at the back and Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany may have not yet kissed and made up after what happened against Real Madrid on Tuesday. The Gunners are far from rock solid either but we can see them winning this one, especially at those tasty odds.
Rayo Vallecano to beat Real Madrid, 8/1
Okay, this is unlikely but Rayo are just the sort of team who can upset Real. It is a local derby and while Jose Mourinho’s team is the one studded with stars, they only edged past Rayo 1-0 at the Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas last season.
There is no doubt that Real looked very good going forward against City but they conceded two bad goals too, and they are looking vulnerable on set-pieces. We think there is an outside chance, we stress an outside chance, that Rayo can pull off a shock on Sunday night.
