Were it not for a late editorial change of mind, readers of Spanish newspaper Sport would have been greeted with a somewhat homoerotic image of Xavi and Carles Puyol on the front page this morning.
Excitement is obviously high in the Catalan capital ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg with Chelsea this evening, but if the folks at Sport were looking to convey that excitement, they could have chosen a better way to do so than publish a picture that is probably a little too risqué for most people’s tastes.
Although the positioning of Xavi beneath Puyol’s crotch in the picture above is highly unintentional (and hilarious), there would only be one conclusion reached by the more dirty-minded readers and thankfully, an eagle-eyed subeditor stepped in to recommend a more family friendly image (see below) and save some unnecessary embarrassment.
While Sport will be counting their blessings that the picture didn’t go to print, the fact that it was still widely circulated means that we have yet another brilliant snapshot to add to the numerous pictures of footballers caught in unintentionally (at least we think they are unintentional) homoerotic poses down through the years.
