As we know ourselves only too well, pre-match stories can look pretty foolish after the event. But whatever about getting the odd prediction wrong here and there, sometimes the events in the game can make a monkey out of you too.
Take this Mail On Sunday piece on Galway’s Gareth Bradshaw in which we are told the captain will ‘pull no punches’.
Cue the game against Mayo a few hours later and wouldn’t you know it, Bradshaw was dismissed for punching a Mayo player in an off-the-ball incident.

When Seamus O’Shea met Freddie Michalek
We don’t know where this picture was taken but it shows two victorious sporting worlds colliding. Tweeted out by Mayo’s Seamus O’Shea last night it shows the Mayo midfielder, and Chris Barrett, in a pub with two very happy rugby players.
Toulon pair Delon Armitage and Freddie Michalek won the Heineken Cup on Saturday and somehow they bumped into the Mayo lads yesterday, fresh from thumping Galway by 17 points. Our best guess is the rugby lads headed to Galway to continue the party.
Whatever happened, it is a pretty cool snap.

It is over 30 years since the great Mick Mackey died but his stature as one of Limerick’s finest sons remains. Now, at last, there is a statue to commemorate the hurling icon.
Unveiled at Castleconnell yesterday, we have to say it’s a cracking statue of the Treaty hero. As the Limerick Leader point out, though, Mackey’s great rival, Cork’s Christy Ring, has two statues in his native county.
Time to start collecting for Mackey Mark II then…
