J-League

It was a good week for the members of the J-League elite this week, with four of the top five scoring in excess of 70 points.

Ciaran Tracey’s Bacuna Mata-ta remain top after a solid 83 points, which was enough to open up a 25-point lead over their nearest challengers, Alan Keohane’s Toffeekeoks FC.

A century from Keith O’Brien’s Hon d’Cabayes catapulted them into third place ahead of Allan Johnson’s Comeback Kids, who plunged from second to fourth after a mediocre 52 points.

Patrick Burke’s Ruby Tuesday are another new entry in the top five, meanwhile, after falling just three points short of the 100-point mark in Gameweek 13.

Leicester v Manchester United is the somewhat unlikely top of the table clash at the King Power Stadium, where all eyes will be on Jamie Vardy as he tries to break a Premier League record set by a United man, Ruud van Nistelrooy, over a decade ago.

He’ll have to break down the best defence in the Premier League if he is to do so, but we have a feeling there’ll be goals in this one.

Elsewhere, a flying Spurs against a gradually improving Chelsea is probably the standout tie this weekend, but Merseyside is the place to look for form players.

With Bournemouth and Swansea providing the opposition for Everton and Liverpool respectively, there’s definitely potential for plenty of points for players on the red and blue side of the divide.

This week’s picks:

Safe bet: Harry Kane (£9.5 million). Captain’s choice last week, safe bet this week. Kane rewarded our faith in him with a brace and 13 points against West Ham and he’ll have fond memories of destroying Chelsea in this fixture last season ahead of Sunday’s early kick-off at White Hart Lane.

Seven goals and 46 points in his last four matches makes for very impressive reading.

during the Barclays Premier League match between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium on November 8, 2015 in London, England.

Dark horse: Arouna Koné (£4.9 million). Romelu Lukaku is rightly grabbing all the headlines, but Koné has been effective alongside him of late. A bargain at £4.9 million, he’s started the last three games and in that time he’s scored three, assisted two and notched up 27 points.

Captain’s choice: Philippe Coutinho (£8.4 million). Phil from Brazil is in red-hot form at the minute, with four goals, an assist and 37 points in his last three games.

Flourishing more than any other individual under Jürgen Klopp’s regime, he can punish a vulnerable Swansea side if he can overcome a slight hamstring strain before Sunday afternoon.
